Effective ergonomics requires a proactive, multi-disciplinary, systemic approach that addresses employee safety, productivity and total quality management. With ergonomics related injury costs reaching the billions of dollars for U.S. companies, scalable and sustainable workplace improvements can dramatically improve your bottom line.

What are Ergonomics Services?
With services ranging from basic task analysis and problem solving, to developing innovative corporate and web-based programs, Riebdon’s ergonomics services enable clients to develop and maintain healthy workplace environments. We have helped hundreds of clients protect employees, reduce insurance costs, and maximize productivity. Our Certified Professional Ergonomists (CPEs, CIEs) focus on improving the design and selection of workstations, workflow layouts, tools, tasks, and process technologies. We emphasize a team approach, working closely with clients to develop short-term and long-term improvements that best fit their operations.

Extensive knowledge of existing and pending ergonomics regulations, standards, and guidelines enables our consultants to assist clients in identifying high-injury or high-cost jobs, pinpointing ergonomic risk factors, identifying root causes, and developing comprehensive action plans. We help clients identify and implement engineering, administrative and work practice solutions that minimize risk factors, reduce injuries, and improve performance.

  • Are most ergonomics services provided proactively or reactively?

    While the vast majority of ergonomics activity is reactive, preventive ergonomics is much more cost-effective. We emphasize a team approach, working closely with human resources, safety, engineering, production, employee groups, and management to achieve company-wide success.

  • What is the “best way” to implement a comprehensive ergonomics program?

    The best way is to integrate ergonomics into other business initiatives such as lean manufacturing, quality improvements, aggressive return-to-work and injury and illness prevention.  This way ergonomics becomes a part of doing business not just a stand-alone safety program.

INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL AIR QUALITY
Air Quality
Industrial Hygiene

Buildings exist to protect people from the elements and to otherwise support human activity. Buildings should not make people sick, cause them discomfort, or otherwise inhibit their ability to perform. How effectively your building functions to support its occupants, and how efficiently the building operates to keep costs manageable is a measure of the building's performance.

Indoor air quality is a major business concern. Studies conducted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and others, show that indoor environments can contain concentrations of pollutants that are higher than concentrations found outdoors. An EPA Report to Congress concluded that improved indoor air quality can result in higher productivity and fewer lost work days. EPA estimates that poor indoor air may cost the nation tens of billions of dollars each year in lost productivity and medical care.

What is Indoor Environmental Quality Management?
The purpose of Indoor Environmental Quality Management is to maintain and improve standards of health and comfort within indoor environments such as the workplace. Riebdon Group carries out inspections, testing, and long term monitoring to provide organizations with appropriate recommendations and solutions. Specific issues that can be covered include air quality and odors, microbes including Legionnaire's disease, fibers and magnetic fields.

What are the key benefits?

  • Allow organizations to anticipate and control potential risks;

  • Help build and maintain good reputation;

  • Optimize costs by preventing rather than curing problems and avoiding litigation;

  • Help maintain current workforce productivity.

Our Approach

Riebdon International provides a complete range of services tailored to each client’s specific needs, including investigating environmental concerns, sick building syndrome and building-related illness complaints, as well as providing a wide variety of proactive Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) services. With the absence of federal regulations for most IEQ concerns, Riebdon’s services follow the intent of the USEPA, World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the consensus guidelines and protocols of professional organizations, such as the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE), the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH), ASTM, and others.

When initially responding to an IEQ concern, we will listen to understand the specific building conditions prompting our services. We then ask what objectives are trying to be met by having an IEQ evaluation, and determine which evaluation techniques can best meet the objectives.

We will develop an informal, initial hypothesis of what we believe may be related to the IEQ issues and design an applicable project Scope of Work.

FAQ - Frequent Asked Questions
  • Why are Indoor Environmental Quality issues a concern if there are no regulations?

    Indoor environmental quality concerns are often raised by employees to the level of Workers’ Compensation claims. Additionally, OSHA has been known to cite organizations under the General Duty Clause for not providing an office environment that is “free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to its employees” All issues relating to Health, Safety and the Environment are receiving increasing public attention. It is advisable for all organizations wishing to protect their employees, their reputation and their finances to consider these issues, even if no official regulations exist.

  • Can indoor air quality be managed?

    Yes. Riebdon provides proactive, integrated strategies that address the operation and maintenance of the ventilation system and the management of sources of pollutants either by recommending how to remove the contaminant from the affected area or how to isolate occupants from the contaminant through physical barriers, air pressurization relationships, or by controlling the source of potential contaminants.
